What changed in the UK

  1. Earned settlement is still a proposal

The UK Government has proposed an "earned settlement" model with a 10-year baseline. On 15 September 2026 the Home Secretary said the revised policy would be published before the end of 2026. It is not law yet, and the current five-year settlement routes remain.

  2. Skilled Worker changes

Skilled Worker roles generally need to be at degree level (RQF 6). The general salary threshold became £41,700, plus the going rate for the job. Overseas recruitment of care workers and senior care workers closed, with a transition period for people already in the UK.

  3. Immigration White Paper

The White Paper "Restoring Control over the Immigration System" set out the direction for the changes since.

  4. New name for the adviser regulator

The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner was renamed the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA).

Who may lawfully advise

Section 84 of the UK Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 says no one may give immigration advice or services unless they are a qualified person. In practice that means:

IAA registered

An adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority, at the level that covers your matter.

UK legal regulator

A professional authorised by a designated UK legal regulator to give immigration advice.

Supervised

A person working under the supervision of one of those qualified people.

Giving UK immigration advice without being qualified is an offence in the UK. We do not hold UK registration, so we do not give UK advice.

What we do

  • We give general information about UK immigration, taken from official published sources.
  • When you need advice, we refer you to an IAA-registered adviser or another qualified UK professional, and give you their name and registration details in writing before you engage them.
  • We do not charge for that referral unless agreed with you in writing.
  • We do not prepare or lodge UK applications.
